Narrative behind our design

The ANZEA Conference 2026 graphic brings together branching mangōpare and flowing haehae to express strength, resilience, and collective growth within the evaluation profession. The mangōpare forms represent both the grounding strength of the profession and the growth of emerging evaluators as they build capability and confidence within a supportive community.

The surrounding haehae pattern reflects movement, rhythm, and connection, drawing inspiration from Ōtākaro, the river that flows through Ōtautahi and carries the stories of the land. Its flowing lines symbolise continuity, shared learning, and the shaping influence of relationships over time. Haehae also speaks to the carving process, aligning with the conference theme of carving a pathway to a brighter future. Each line represents progress — the ongoing stages of shaping, refining, and bringing ideas to life.

Together, these elements portray a profession that is grounded yet forward-looking, connected through shared knowledge, and actively carving its path toward new opportunities and challenges, including those emerging through AI. The design invites participants to see themselves as both supported by the collective and responsible for shaping positive change into the future.
